Katja Herbers' parents are Oboist Werner Herbers and violinist Vera Beths. As a child, she spent time in America accompanying her mother on tours with chamber music ensemble L'Archibudelli. Her first encounter with theatre came as her father Leonie Poliak, and the cellist Annerbylsma remarried. As she grew older she had an au pair who was from Canada.
